Taranaki Youth Orchestra

Description

Taranaki Youth Orchestra was formed in 1983 to provide orchestral experience for young Taranaki musicians. The orchestra currently has around 36 young players, augmented by several adult guests. Aiming to reach out to a younger audience, the repertoire includes appealing themes from film and TV as well as well-known classics. As well as two major concerts every year, the orchestra also gives “Introduction to the Orchestra” performances to Primary and Intermediate schools and to Registered Music Teachers’ recitals.

Meetings

The Taranaki Youth Orchestra meets each week Wednesday at Sacred Heart Girls College PAC centre and rehearses from 6-8pm under the guidance of conductor Jocelyn Beath. The aim is to further musical ability, make friendships and prepare for their regular public recitals. All young players of orchestral instruments are most welcome if they meet the minimum grade requirement (grade 3 strings, grade 5 wind) or have equivalent years learning. Junior Orchestra caters for students with less experience but who have the desire to be part of an orchestra
