Rotokare Scenic Reserve Trust was formed in 2004 by a group of locals concerned about the decline of the habitat at Rotokare Reserve. A specially designed predator-proof fence now circles the 8.2km reserve perimeter. This fence keeps out all pest species, allowing vegetation to recover and fauna to breed successfully.
Kiwi chicks are raised here. In addition tieke and robin have been successful re-introduced.
Native bird life is abundant and often remarked on by our visitors.
The community is heavily involved as volunteers, supporters, walkers, boaters, campers and users of the education programme.
