The South Taranaki Whanau Centre provides empowerment courses and support for the South Taranaki community. Our Mission Statement is: To provide a safe and supportive environment for the empowerment of women and children and families. Courses we run are: FREE Surviving Parenting: runs for 8 weeks which is based on preventing family violence and the effects that it has on our children/families. This course is for Dads, Mums, Grandparents and Caregivers. This course is designed to help with the challengers of raising today’s children. This course is run 4 times a year once every school term. FREE Women’s Self Confidence runs over 5 weeks. This is for women who have low self confidence because of family violence, relationship breakdowns, loss of employment etc. This course is run 7 times a year and we do one-on-one also as some women are unable to be in a group situation. FREE Teen Self Confidence runs over 4 weeks. This course is designed for vulnerable and at risk young people. The course is run once every school term and more if needed. Teens also gain the skills on how to deal with Peer pressures and Bulling along with accepting themselves as an individual. Positive Relationship Course runs for 3 weeks. If you are in an unhealthy relationship or have been or know someone that is, this course is for you. This course runs over a 4-5 week period and is hands on. Clients receive information on cooking nutritional meals on a limited budget. The facilitator is a Nutritional Therapist .
