Sands New Plymouth/Taranaki is a voluntary organisation that provides support and information to parents and families dealing with the death of a baby in pregnancy, birth or as a newborn, and due to medical termination or other forms of reproductive loss.
We run support meetings, provide books and resources and hold events during Baby Loss Awareness Week in October. We also provide Moses baskets, clothing, memory books and other memory items to Taranaki Base Hospital and we run workshops for health and caring professionals to create awareness.
As bereaved parents ourselves we offer empathy and understanding and an opportunity to share experiences, to talk and to listen. If you have found this page because you have recently lost a baby, we extend our heartfelt sympathies to you.
We are affiliated to Sands New Zealand and we're part of the network of Sands groups throughout the country who support bereaved parents, families and whanau www.sands.org.nz.
We do not receive any government funding to run our sands group, we rely on grants and donations. Any contribution to our group, whether it is financial, time offered or even just telling someone about us, is gratefully appreciated.
No matter the age, gestation or circumstances of your loss we invite you to contact us.
